Thw Write Ring Mystery...10 & 11

What Next??
“Does anyone else use sweet and low?” Charles asked as I picked up the basket of small packets and turning held it out to him.
Linda who had just returned from the porch answered, “Yes, I use it in my coffee.”

"Don’t use it again. Let’s gather up all we can find. We will have it analyzed when we get out of this place. That’s bound to be the source of poison.”

"Who said she died of poison?” Phyllis asked as she entered the kitchen from outside.”Brrrr, it is so cold out there.” She shivered,” Maybe she just had a heart attack. Why is everyone so spooked? People die all the time.”

Linda giggled nervously, “I think we all need to go in the lodge room and smoke one of Phyllis’s ‘funny’ cigarettes, that should lighten the mood.” Phyllis smiled at her,
"I’m game.”

"Are you girls stoned?” Charles asked.

“Hey don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it.” Phyllis retorted moving seductively through the kitchen toward the dining room. Looking back over her shoulder she smiled an invitation.

“Well, this is real good, we got one dead and two stoned, smoking pot. I can see the headlines now.” Larry said, obviously disgusted, “Murder in Writers Mountain Ogre.“

Considering what he had just said he went on, “that sounds like the beginning of a good story.”

Linda, definitely under the influence, giggled again, ”Oh Larry, you kill me.” then realizing what she said she covered her mouth, blue eyes opened wide and said “OOPS”.

I could not believe the way they were acting, here was one of our fellow writers lying dead in her room and they were making light of it, like it was a big joke. I decided these were some weird people I was hanging out with. I looked up at Robin. I could tell he felt much like I did about the situation.

“Until there is an autopsy we will not know for sure what did happen to her, I just supposed it was something she ate.” Charles said as he studied each of us.

”Did all of you turn in a personal history sheet? I know I filled one out but still have it in my room. If Anita filled one out it should be here someplace. It would tell us if she had a health problem or not. I’m going to look for it.”

As Charles left the room I got up and headed for the door. I needed from fresh air. I felt I was in a dream and hoped I would wake up any minute. Robin followed me and put a jacket over my shoulders he picked up by the back door. It smelled of pipe tobacco, a pleasant odor.

Daylight was showing through the pines in the east. The air was crisp and cold. Frost glistened on the grass near the driveway. I soaked it up, it was a bit of normalcy, I needed that. I took a deep breath of the cold air, it smelled of the pines. I shivered from the cold and horror of what had happened. Robin reached for my hand,

“Lets go in, you’ll get a chill out here.”

As we walked into the big hall toward the warmth of the lodge room Charles came to the head of the stairs.

“Robin,”

We looked up, he just stood there looking at us, finally he said,”she’s gone.”

“What are you talking about, she’s gone?” Robin responded with a jerk and headed for the stairs.

Larry hearing the conversation came from the big room,
“What’s happening?” he asked as Robin bounded up the stairs.

Larry hesitated a minute and then followed him. Phyllis and Linda came to the door and we stood there at the foot of the stairs watching, wondering what we were facing now?
