Expectation is such a little word. How could it cause so much trouble among friends as well as enemies? Write it down and see how harmless it looks but then let it sink into your heart and you will feel it and you will discover a very different energy. Yes, expectation can be one of the most powerful words in our vocabulary’s arsenal.
How can such a small word be so powerful? Is it we who give it the power – the control over our lives? Think for a moment of the last time you felt an expectation. Remember how you became hooked on its essence? We expect this or that and become disappointed when we cannot achieve that expectation. Many become discouraged and even despondent when their expectations of life fail to appear.
Expectation – such a little word. Expectation – what everyone wishes for but few achieve. Expectation can bring happiness, joy, elation, and wonder while it can also bring despair, depression, and disappointment. I wonder why? When I write it down it looks so innocent. When I hear it pronounced I don’t feel any emotion but when it occurs and that expectation turns into disappointment I become saddened, less alive, and my ego gets a bruise that is hard to heal.
I’ve learned to remove expectation from my working vocabulary. I do not expect anything but am pleasantly surprised when something I desire occurs. I become happy, elevated, and peaceful because I don’t carry the hidden baggage promised in such a small package.
Expectation is a word that brings us pain when we fail to meet its parameters but give us joy when we receive the dreams we desire. Expectation causes us to anticipate events before they happen and thereby removes us from the present moment resulting in havoc in our lives.
I would encourage you to also remove this word from your vocabulary and begin a journey toward healing.
