Due to the progression of my MS I now reside in a nursing home
Hello All,
Due to the progression of my MS (multiple sclerosis) I now reside in a nursing home. I intend to write a daily report on Life in a Nursing Home, but I realize that the MS may have other plans. So, I will write everyday that I'm able.
I have been here for about one month & am pleasantly surprised. I had always thought of a nursing home as a place to go to die & while this is somewhat true, it is much more. I also realize that there are really good ones & really bad ones. This one is about middle of the road in this area except it is run by a forward-thinking admin. that allows people to keep their identity.
I had asked if I could have my laptop so I could continue to write & then asked about a private room for the peace & quiet needed. The laptop was no problem but the private room was much too costly. However, they do try to match roommates so everyone is happy & my roommate is perfect. He is an older gentleman that chooses not to talk much & wants quiet also. Every bed is capable of having a telephone, so internet DSL is no problem except the money part.
Yes, the money part, for me, was/is the scariest part. I was required to sign over all of my income & they give me $30.00 per month to buy any extras that I want or need. In the month I've been here, I have found nothing lacking to spend even a dime. When they say they furnish everything---they really do. Even the nails to hang pics on the wall.
I can remember saying that I would rather die than live in a nursing home. So far, this isn't bad---it's not home but… We'll see
