My thoughts about Iraq 5/25/2004 1:38:10 PM Have we really come a long way?
I have been reading “Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee” by Dee Brown, which is an account of Native American history (1860-1890). This book tells of beheadings, mutilation, disembowelment, and the wholesale slaughter of unarmed people.
As I read this book, the war in Iraq came to mind. I can change names, places and dates to bring this account of our history into what is going on today. We are again imposing our way of life, by force, on a people that did not ask for it or want it. This repeat of history causes me to ask questions:
· Did we learn nothing from history?
· What makes us right?
· Why are we really there?
· Should we be surprised that the people there have pride in who/what they are?
