A New Old Texas Fable

Are you that stubborn or just plain stupid, he asked as he watched his buddy continue to poke and prod the dead thing. It gave up the ghost, stopped fighting, not out of defeat but from sheer boredom at the absurdity of it all. The thing walked away, left nothing but its shell on the side of the road. Jebb was too fixated on the shell. Didn't even notice when that there was no one home. Just kept poking, hoping for some sign as he huffed and puffed and tried to blow the house in. Bobby shook his head. Jebb'd been there over a year, everyday poking at the the dead thing. Bobby left Jebb as always to his ignorant activities while he met the spirit by the old oak tree. They sat and talked a while, sipping homemade beer from a mason jar, sucked on honey comb dripping golden from a hole in the barn. What's with your friend? Why don't he just let it be, inquired the spirit most bewilderedly. You got me, Bobby said, but I'll tell you what. I'd rather be here with you, looking like I'm talking to myself, than continue to be associated with that horse's butt.
The moral of the story? Well, if it were me, I'd move on. Stop for what's important. Accept the truth of what you find. Leave the empty behind and get on about the business of living life.
Today, I wish you all the joy of living life! It's a hell of a lot sweeter when you do and there's a whole world out there just ripe for the pickin' if you just leave the dead alone. Peace!
