Breaking Book Publishing Norms and Succeeding

This is a copy of my blog I am writing at It is the story of how I am turning a self-published book into a best seller. :) I will tell about the things I have learned and tried. By the way, I should reach 10000 books sold by the end of this school year.
The Beginning

My name is James Todd Cochrane and I am the author of two, soon to be three, young adult novels, Max and the Gatekeeper, The Hourglass of Souls, and The Descendent and the Demon's Fork. I am also the owner of my own publishing company, Dark Moon Publishing Inc. I'm going to use this blog to, hopefully, help, inspire, teach, and learn how to succeed in the publishing world without going through the normal channels.

If you ever have questions or suggestions please feel free to add your comments.

Before I start at the beginning, I need to tell you where I am on this adventure to succeed.

I published my first book in September of 2007 and by the end of this school year, I will pass the 10,000 books sold mark. My first book, Max and the Gatekeeper, is on two impressive(at least to me) school lists. I will also have visited over 50 schools in 8 different states.

I have tried a lot of things to promote my books. Some of them were very successful and some where not. I plan on sharing these things with you through this blog, including why I didn't follow the normal publishing path.

In the spring of 2005 I wrote the rough draft for my first book. Like those of you who have managed to write a complete story, it felt great to get it on paper (Word Document).

Next came the editing process, not so fun! :(
