The Decline of Authoritarianism
1/2/2008 7:42:54 AM
As the Middle Ages emergeed from ancient times, the early Catholic Church became the center of power both in religion and in government.

The Middle Ages ended in a humanistic renaissance, which gave way to towns, merchants and a middle class, It was also the rebirth of arts and music [John B. Noss 1971].

Also, in the year 1517 a young German prist by the name of Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses on the church door at Writtenberg, ending monotheistic Catholicism and establishing Protestant pluralism.

A farther drift in authoritarianism resulted in the English Revolution of 1688,the French Revolution of 1789 and most important the American Revolution of 1775.

The American Constitution was the most liberal and radical document ever written by man, because it expounded self rule and civil rights. While these rights originally applied mostly to the upper classes they have, over time, become more inclusive.
