When Pigs Flew 9/17/2009 7:03:10 AM Pig flu, pork bills, and when pigs fly
People are always saying, "when pigs fly..." Well, it looks like those pigs finally flew. With all this about the pig flu going on, I've felt myself going crazy. With four people in my extended family in the medical industry, I had my concerns. Those concerns were escalated by the fact that I live in a university town with many people from over seas and across the country mingling with our community. So far, there have been relatively fewer deaths with this flu than those in conjunction with other, more disastrous bouts in the last few years. So what is all this hubbub about!? Am I to remain here, chewing my fingernails, worrying about it hitting my family? Should I rush out and get my children vaccinated? I do have one daughter, who having no colon, is subject to long bouts of dehydration, and any flu is bad news for her. I think I will get the vaccination for her benefit.
However, I think the more deadly pig flu that we should be worried about, is the one that exists within the house health bill here in the U.S. It is sick the amount of pork that's in it-- and having finally read a few of its pages, I'm amazed that anyone can even work it out. It's Constitution Day. The original constitution, that founded this country was only a few pages long. I say let's bag that health bill, figure out what it's really trying to say ultimately, and rewrite it-- give it an injection of life-giving clarity, and then vaccinate our congressmen(women) against any such pork illnesses in the future. But will it happen?
When pigs fly.

PS, I've posted this on roundtable in case we'd like to take up a discussion about it there. --Char
