Comfort for My Sake or Discomfort for Yours

thoughts about how selfishness is indeed the root of our sinful nature and how easy it is to get caught up in this tidal wave of deceit without even realizing the source.
I don't know about you, but I can get caught up in selfishness every now and then...know what I mean? Have you ever noticed that it is more comfortable for us to take the easy way out instead of choosing to simply grin and bear the discomforts of life?
Let me explain my point here. Let's say we go to visit friends far away and the house is too cold and the bed too soft. Perhaps your friends don't spend much time in your company and you feel a bit discouraged. Instead of enduring the discomforts with discipline and grace, you decide to just pack it up and ride on out to your next destination--since you do have somewhere else to go. That's the easy way out, right? But is it the best way?
I say 'no.' The problem is that if we choose to go, we've allowed our old selfish sinful nature to get in the way of doing what is right. Enduring discomfort for someone elses sake is better than running out and doing what is easy for our own physical comfort. Also, 9 out of 10 times, we will discover that our perception of the easy way might turn out to be the most difficult... And so A Great lesson is learned at someone else's expense.
Yes, we have the liberty to plan our steps, but thank goodness it's God who directs our path. I am so very grateful for that truth and for His amazing love, mercy and grace that abounds in our hearts and lives each day!
