winter versus spring, overbearing people and burdocks

"You'll start biking soon, won't you?":  My eldest asked me this today on phone, because it "feels like spring, doesn't it Mom?"  But I poo-poo'd the idea saying, “It's not quite March yet, and it could get cold again, and well anyways it's bound to rain, and this isn't really the warm weather yet, and well, if you must know, I'm holding out for a late do-all, end-all, close all schools spring blizzard!”  Weird, I know.  I don't want winter to be over yet.  I hate that we took the sleds out of the trunk of the car and put them back in the garage.

“Does she ever just let you talk!?!?!?  Do you wish you could jump out the window?  Would she follow you?  I wish I could come rescue you today.  Tell her to put a sock in it!” The things I said to my eldest this afternoon because sometimes (this aft. for instance) when she calls, the "other grandma" is in the background at their house, and this woman never stops talking.  No matter what someone has to say, she has something to top it, and if people are just talking on the phone (which is actually considered to be a private undertaking) she stands there in the background adding to and amending everything the person says into the phone.  So my daughter tries to tell me stuff, and in the background she gets corrected, told to tell it this way or that, blah, blah, blah.  So while she tried to fill me in on her daily life or the activities of the grandbabies today, "the other grandma" ranted in the background.  I listened to Carole and then added the above comments as sidebars, which I'm pretty sure kept her from really jumping out the window today.

“Thanking the burdocks!?!?!!?”  These are the words that swam into my brain this morning when I resurfaced from sleep.  I’m used to words and phrases and resurfacing.  Later in the day, these same words rattle around while I’m working and sooner or later I'll open up “notepad” behind my “real work” and fashion it into something, or file it away in an ongoing “notepad” file titled, “grist!”  All day today, though, I was going, “Thanking the burdocks?!?!?!? What the f’ am I supposed to do with that?”

Suffice it to say, it’s been a very, very long week where everything I touched turned to either blood or dust, and I seemed to get nowhere fast in all my endeavors.  There were just not enough hours in any given day, all of my best made plans were laughable at best when it came to everything that went down this week, and in the end I think my brain just plain malfunctioned! I’m thinking I must have been near end-stage brain total failure this morning, and the only thing keeping my head together was the remains of five long days, brambles at best, and so, I was “thanking the burdocks!”  in the way that they so delightfully attach themselves to everything that is left, which hopefully will snowball into something at a later date.

In the meantime, I’m in serious need of downtime.
