House on Fire?
6/17/2010 8:18:51 AM
Tea Bagger Movement needs to get a grip on reality.

If your house was on fire, would you call an arsonist to put it out?
That’s what Tea baggers seem to be asking you to do. A recent New York Times poll found that most of these “protestors” are right-wing conservatives. That’s to the right of Ronald Reagan whose constant pump priming of the military industrial complex increased the national debt from under a trillion dollars to over four trillion. (Prior to Obama) Reagan, Bush, and Bush II were responsible for over 80% of the national debt. The last president to balance the budget and start to pay down the national debt was “tax and spend liberal,” Bill Clinton. Can you say “hypocrites”?
Would Clinton have started a war he didn’t have to fight while cutting taxes at the same time and charging the whole thing on his Chinese credit card? The next bubble may very well happen in China. Take a look at Dubai for an example of hyper expansionism. Office buildings are standing empty. But China has us by the short hairs. They’re a country that’s too big to fail. If we don’t help them, they’ll dump that two trillion we owe them on the money market, and the dollar will plummet like a lead balloon.
Then there’s the Tea Baggers’ famous free market that they claim is in The Constitution. It’s not. The Colonialists and the new country were just as monopolistic as Standard Oil was (and still is if you count all the mini- Standard Oils). Cornelius Vanderbilt, Fisk and other budding tycoons forced competition, and that wasn’t until the 19th century.
How many Enrons, Mortgage crises, Black Fridays, Internet bubbles, and oil spills do we have to have before these people catch a clue? Regulation is necessary. So far no one in the national media has made the connection between “Spill, baby, spill,” and the crisis on the Gulf Coast. Bush II cut funding for the Environmental Protection Agency, and nobody was there to make sure British Petroleum enforced safety measures.
It’s hard not to laugh out loud at the gall of these knuckledraggers. Tea baggers don’t know anything about the Constitution. Without the Federalist Papers the Constitution never would have been ratified. Get it? FEDERAList Papers? Alexander Hamilton wrote most of them, and he believed in a strong Federal Government. He argued that the colonies should surrender some of their authority to the Federal government. When he became Secretary of the Treasury, he founded the First National Bank, which assumed Revolutionary War debts of the states and made it easier for them to trade with each other. There was nothing in the Constitution about a national bank, nor was there anything in there about the Louisiana Purchase, negotiated by Thomas Jefferson, whom the Tea Baggers like to quote as someone who encouraged revolution against tyrannical government. It was a different story when he became president.
A North Carolina Tea Bagger politician recently accused Obama and British Petroleum of blowing up the oil rig in the Gulf on purpose. Nobody’s that dumb. He’s catering to conspiracy theorists who still believe the government is hiding little green men.
This constitutional fetish conservatives and Tea Baggers seem to suddenly have is just a bit ironic. At the time of the Revolution, conservatives were British loyalists. The patriots were progressives. There is no progress without progressives. The Tea Bagger movement is regressive.
