Breitbart Makes Segretti look like a choirboy 7/28/2010 8:54:47 AM Andrew Breitbart's unfair indictment of Shirley
Sherrod is the rule not the exception.
Andrew Breitbart is not the exception; he’s the rule. Breitbart was the “mastermind” behind the ACORN scam, then helped to infiltrate Senator Mary Landrieu’s office in Louisiana (he got a slap on the hand for that one), and now he’s behind the Shirley Sherrod episode in which he accused a good woman of being racist, just because the NAACP had asked (rather politely I thought) for the Tea Partiers to eliminate their racist elements.
Shirley Sherrod’s father was murdered by a Georgia cracker. She certainly had a right to feel some ill feelings toward whites, but she didn’t. She helped that white farmer keep his farm and he’s willing to testify to that. Breitbart suggests that the NAACP audience applauded when Shirley said she was reluctant to help that white farmer. Except that’s a lie. The tape doesn’t reveal any such thing. Breitbart is a liar.
The Republican party has a long history of pulling dirty tricks. Anybody remember Donald Segretti of the Watergate trials? Segretti was actually in charge of dirty tricks for the Nixon campaign. Segretti eventually pleaded guilty to several misdemeanors, mainly stealing Democratic stationery and sending out malicious letters to other Democratic candidates. One with a Hubert Humphrey letterhead labeled Shirley Chisholm “mentally unbalanced. Segretti gets credit for ruining the Muskie campaign. His activities were referred to as “ratf***ing.” Breibart makes Segretti look like a choirboy. Fox News, the propaganda wing of the Republican Party, was only too anxious to believe Shirley Sherrod was as racist as they are.
How can anybody argue that Breitbart is an exception? When Republican congressmen and senators dare to criticize Rush Limbaugh they are forced to apologize. Phil Gingrey, Georgian congressmen, was forced to apologize to Limbaugh for saying it was easier for Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck to “throw bricks” than it was for Congressman Boehner and Mitch McConnell since they have to try to work with democrats. This was construed to mean Limbaugh should back off. Gingrey got hundreds of letters and phone calls from ditto heads and had to apologize. Rush Limbaugh has a high school education. He flunked out of college. He never wanted to be anything but a disk jockey. He still is a disk jockey. Glen Beck had a chance to go to Yale. He dropped out in the middle of his one and only class on religion of all things. The man is a "former" drug addict and alcoholic.
McConnell and Boehner do a pretty good job throwing bricks if you ask me. This might be the most obstructionist Republican Congress I’ve seen, and I’m sixty-five. Hopefully it’s starting to backfire. The Tea Partiers want to be part of the Republican party, and if that’s the case, the party is responsible for what they do. When Tea Partiers in Mason City put up a billboard comparing Obama to Hitler and Lenin, when one of their leaders sends a “satirical” letter to Abraham Lincoln from a black man begging Abe not to pass the Emancipation Proclamation because it would mean he’d have to work for a living, when one of them spits on black congressmen, when most of their signs are demeaning toward the president, it’s time to stop the rationalizing. Lately they booted some of them out, but the damage has already been done. And it’s starting to cause a backlash. The lady in Nevada is behind Senator Reid in the polls, Rubin in Florida is running behind Governor Crist, and he was supposed to be the boy wonder of the Republican party. Even Rand Paul is only six percentage points ahead of the democrat in Kentucky of all places.
Meanwhile Michelle Bachmann, who may be serving her last term, when the voters find out most of her campaign contributions are coming from Texas, has formed a caucus in Congress for Tea Party members. Apparently nobody told her caucuses are meant for specific legislation. She’s never passed any legislation so I guess you can’t blame her for not knowing that.
When the governor of Texas threatens to secede from union, when others talk of nullification, it’s beginning to sound like Civil War and that’s sedition, folks. If Republicans take over Congress this November, we’ll be at war with Iran within a year. That’s all they know how to do, wag the dog.
