Interracial Couple Denied Marriage License
How can some people be so small-minded in this day and age to think the way that this Hammond, Louisiana justice of the peace thinks? This man actually claims that he is not a racist because "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else." I cannot believe that he was actually serious when he stated that. It sounds more like something some gap-toothed, slovenly, hillbilly, backwoods character would say just before spitting tobacco into a tin can and openly scratching himself, not a servant of the public. Oh it gets even better than that, his reason for denying the couple a marriage license was because it is his "experience" that most interracial marriages do not last long. Does he really think that interracial couples invented divorce? Maybe he should come out of his cave, wipe the crust from his eyes and take a poll to find out just how many of the couples he has united are still together. The above mentioned narrow-mindedness was not enough, no way! This idiot had to go even further to try to justify his unlawfulness by claiming that it was the concern for the children born to interracial couples that caused him to be a bigot. He claims that he has come to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society. What century does this person live in?! I am the proud mother of three beautiful, bi-racial daughters and, yes over the years, they have had issues with fitting it, but so has everyone else, for one reason or another, regardless of what skin color they have. Although I appreciate Mr. Bardwell's "concern" for my children, I can assure him that they are probably a lot more happy and well adjusted than his children are. I don't know what the origin of this man's prejudice is and I don't even care, all I know is that if you are a public servant your job is to serve all of the public, not to pick and choice who you feel is worthy or unworthy. He must realize that his tactics are not helping to eliminate a problem, they're only adding to an age old one. I'm thinking about sending him a copy of my book. But then again, the message would probably be well over his head.

Older The Better by Blak Rayne

One man lives on the edge. Another lives to forget. Can one bad choice be made right after fourteen years of denial?..
