Progress Report: A Salute to Spanish Poetry 100 Masterpieces from Spain and Latin America

Keeping up to schedule, Poem 35 for my proposed "A Salute to Spanish Poetry: 100 Masterpieces from Spain & Latin America" was written by the celebrated Spanish poet, Juan de Tassis y Peralta (1582-1622).... 21 such poems are included in the Tom Howard anthology, "Escape to Paradise and Other Poetic Fancies."
To a Lady Combing Her Hair
translated from the Spanish of Juan de Tassis y Peralta, Count of Villamediana
Dividing waves of untraveled seas,
a little silver boat was gliding,
guided by an attentive hand
against winds of sighs
and cares.
Avariciously anxious to imprison a few superfluous waves
from this abundance, I offer the Lady a locket
and beg her to lock but a few stray
fibers in this delightful jail.
In this same storm-scattered Aegean Sea,
whose navigational dangers I adore,
my heart travels in a constant
happy ship-wreck.
When her sails furl open to the winds,
my heart rides rich and full over the tempestuous waves
to find safe harbor on a diamond reef
in a golden bay.
