Is anyone reading the last of the Dark Tower series by steve king?
I really burned out on King years ago but have always given him credit for major talent and unbelievable audacity as an author. He has really topped himself in both in the last book of the Gunslinger Series...the Dark Tower. I won't go into detail for those of you who haven't read it and intend to but King actually has written himself into the story as a major character in the books. It is a very complicated and detailed situation and he had to really go back and deal with the earlier books in his explanation of himself in the later one and he did it so well, I just can't put the book down. I always got a kick out of King writing himself parts in his movies, it just seemed like the kind of thing he would do if you read his books but to make himself an integral part of the story, as himself, the author of the book...its just too much! And I mean that in a good way...it has refreshed my enthusiasm for King and I went back and read the three earlier books before finishing the two newest ones...or is it three? My mind has been a jumble of Midworld and all the wonders it entails lately, I've forgotten exactly how many I've read. I think there is three new ones, The Wolves of Calla, The Song of Suzannah and the last one of course, is the Dark Tower. I have been halfway in love with Roland, the gunslinger, all the way thru them and he is getting old and arthritic and i'm still fascinated. As with all King books, I entertain myself chosing movie stars to play each part and I've pretty much decided that Clive Owen should be Roland but thats as far as I've gotten. Suzannah would have to be either Jaida Pinckett Smith or someone like her, Eddie is a tough one and the part of Jake is beyond me. Let me know if you have any ideas, I always like to see how other people envision the characters I feel like I know so well.
By the way, has anyone seen Sin City and did you think it was as good as I did? I could see it several times more and probably will but the first time was an event. If you haven't seen it, please do, it is a marvel. haha Sue
