Its been a couple of months since I've heard from Deb
someone told me she and a couple of friends were moving to florida but she didn't call or let me know in any way so I go to sleep every night wondering where she is sleeping and if she is eating...you know the routine. This is really payback for me...I took off in the sixties and moved to California, calling my mother once every few months to let her know I was still kicking...it never occurred to me that she worried every night, that she watched every news program with apprehension, wondering if she would see my face. I know Deb is almost forty years old but I still worry...my daughter-in-law was just a couple of years older than Deb when she died a few years back. They said it was septic poisoning from a bladder infection but it was really because of all the drugs she put in her body. Just a few days before she died a doctor gave her two prescriptions, one for antibiotics for the infection and some pain pills...you know which one she filled don't you? Debbie is a lot like Roxanne was, they were both pretty women who couldn't leave the drugs alone. Roxanne had lost most of her looks by the time she died, my son still loved her but she sure wasn't pretty. Deb can still fix herself up but she is losing that beauty that some of you will remember. There is a picture of Deb at the top of some of my poems, one of them called Deb I believe. But it is not losing her looks that worries me, its losing her life and the fact that she probably doesn't carry a bit of real identification or something with my name and phone number on it...she could become just a statistic and I would never know. I know this is personal and of little interest to people in general but sometimes I just need to say something about her, put my thoughts into some coherent order. And who knows, maybe I'm hoping, whereever Deb is, she will read this and get pissed enough at me for saying she is losing her looks, to call me and bitch...it would at least be a phone call. Deb, call collect. Mom
