Lessons Learned: Library of Congress Catalog Number 3/6/2012 2:15:47 PM Who says old dogs can't learn new tricks? I just learned -- too late for my first self-published book -- that you have to apply for your Library of Congress Catalog Number (LCCN/PCN) PRIOR to publishing your book. The LCCN is what local and regional libraries use to order your book and stock it on their shelves. I've tried to correct my mistake by sending copies of my book FREE to libraries. You can bet the next book, TEXAS JUSTICE, is already set up and ready to go. When I wrap up the story and do the typesetting, it will be ready to go EVERYWHERE! The sad part is, the LCCN/PCN is free. I just didn't know ...
What I've done is left Whiskey Creek Press and started to do self-publishing for e-books (Amazon.com; Barnes&Noble and Smashwords) and POD book on CreateSpace. Being a whiz-bang writer (I say modestly) doesn't make me a whiz-bang publisher. That's a whole different ball game, but I'm learning.
Now I have to get smarter on how to promote my books.
