National Cemetery vs Preservation of Ball Park 5/7/2007 10:10:31 AM holy cow! What will they think of next?
How appalling! Listening to the evening news made me so disgusted, I couldn't see straight. It appears the old baseball field and land used for circuses, adjacent to the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas is now in debate. Debate my foot! There should be no debate when the land was given to the National Cemetery for needed burial space, and the hoopla surrounding it should be nipped in the bud. What is questionable is why the National Cemetery has to prove their worth to the citizens of Fort Smith. They shouldn't! Veterans have been pushed, shoved, vilified, ignored, debased and forgotten for so long, it is pathetic. It is a travesty that the United States Veterans have to contend with someone holding the land up for "possible" historical purposes. Who do you think made our land historical? Who fought and gave the ultimate gift…death? Who keeps our land free? Who fought and fights for our right to have liberty? Who has to fight for their right to benefits from horrendous wars? VETERANS! Why on earth should a piece of land for former ball players and droppings from elephants be placed above the need to help those who have helped so many? Someone has their priorities all mixed up and I certainly hope the "powers that be" in the city of Fort Smith sets it straight and does the right thing for the Veterans. They deserve a proper burial place and respect from all of us. Step up to the "plate" Fort Smith and do what is right. Whack that stupid ball and notion out of the long lost forgotton ball park. Don't let the Veterans down! To those who think the land is sacred to ball players…erect a plaque. It will suffice.
Not only that but the person in charge better get on his high top tennis shoes, grab a pipe like Sherlock and mosey on down to the assessment office so he can quickly decide which land to snatch up for historical purposes. Never mind those wanting to build a new house and all the taxes it will provide. Another thing, while you're at it, take a backhoe and dig up the newly erected jail house near Judge Parker's Courtroom, plow up the north forty where Garrison Avenue and Wheeler interjects because you may find pieces of cow and horse dung left over from Judge Parker's reign. When you are finished there, grab a magnifer and cross over the river into Oklahoma because the dust devils have blown what dirt there was in the old ball park, clear across the river!
Now, I understand the need to preserve vegetables to live in today's society, but a piece of land no larger than a piss ant and forgotten it ever existed...get real.
