Life Lessons For Little Ones
12/13/2009 7:11:05 PM
Wednesday I went to my doctor for a check-up since my surgery. The last time I had talked to him was about four days before my last surgery. We had talked about how it was a more invasive kind of cancer than the other was three years ago. I had asked him if it was life threatening and he said that it could be. He said he only wished that he had gotten it six months ago. Now I don't know about you, but when a doctor talks to me like that I seem to think it is not going to be too good of news later.
I had started to make lists of who was going to get the things of mine that my husband did not want. I had made up my mind a long time ago that unless they could almost guarantee that taking chemo it would have to be 65% chance or better that it would help for me to even attempt that. I have always told my family that I would not take chemo. I was going to clean the house and throw things away that didn't mean anything to my husband.
I felt so calm and was not scared, worried or sad. This has to be God working in my life for me to be okay with this like I am. I asked the doctor if the chance of chemo helping was 65% or better. He said, "Oh yes"! The report was not near as bleak as I had thought it would be. I will go to my oncologist Thursday to talk about radiation. Then the 21st I will go to another doctor to talk about what he wants to do about chemo. I just hope that my doctor visits do not clash with my Christmas parties that I have planned, because if they do then we are going to have a problem. I go to a doctor's appointment like I am going out to lunch. I do not know how people can face life without God helping them through it.
In the meantime on Friday morning I got a phone call and it was the dog trainer that had worked with Mackensie
(our Boston Terrier). After Tucker had to be put to sleep the other trainer had asked if I was interested in a dog that they had rescued from the shelter. I said if my husband was I would call her. She told me that they thought that our family would be a good match for this dog they had. She described the dog to me and told me of what a bad life she had had. She is seven years old and had been beaten in her home. They owners then dumped her off at the shelter parking lot. She ran across a busy highway to find her way home and after she made it back home the owners call the shelter to tell them to come and get the stray dog in their garage. She had been microchipped and when they checked to see who owned the dog it come up their name.
I told her that I would think about it and call her back. Well you all know what I told her. Our house was so sad because of Tucker and after hearing Lucy's story there was no way I was going to leave her in a foster home at Christmas. Her name is now Noelle, and she seems very happy. She is still afraid of loud noises and fast movements scare her, but she is doing really well. She lost so much weight from going home that her skin is wrinkled and looks like someone has brushed her and left marks in her fur with the brush. I hope she will be able to gain it back. She has eaten 5 or 6 times today.
She loves to go on walks with my husband and if he gets his outside clothes on she jumps off of the couch and runs to the kitchen. She is a big dog and is over half the size of the couch. She is part Australian Shepherd and maybe Huskie. She is red and tall, with a glass eye and a brown eye. I wanted her to sleep in the room with me, but she was scared to go in there. My husband got up at 3:00A.M. and walked out to the kitchen and was shocked to see this tall dog with the scary eyes looking at him. He said it was a good thing that she didn't bark or he would have had a heart attack.
Our Christmas is going to be pretty darn good now even though we miss Tucker so much. Later - Lori
