Life Lessons For Little Ones
12/26/2009 11:54:46 AM
I just went to the doctor Monday. I had never met this one before. He walked in very polite and sat down to give us the details of chemo. I was very happy with my first decision of not having any treatment and then people started to complain. Since the appointment was made
to talk to the chemo doctor I have not been so excited.
I have to admit I have taken this news quite well and have not tried to fight it at all, but on this day of talking to him I am sure he thought that I was a little histerical. I started to cry and told what my plan was and how I didn't want to disapoint doctors, my kids, mom and the people at church. My husband was taking my decision as well as he can accept change. I told the doctor how I have been sick with odd things most of my life. I have tests run and they come back okay. I have to take antidepressants not because I am depressed, but for muscle weakness. Jeff told him that I thought that I would be dead in six months, and he said I know she does.
He told me that 1 percent of the people that do take chemo cannot handle it and completly fall apart. He said from some of the things that I have had in my life I might be one of those people. On the other hand if it were him he would certainly try it. He told me that I might feel better than ever before.
All of a sudden he looks at my husband and says has anyone ever told you that your wife is a little strange? I burst out laughing and he says to Jeff, didn't you think someting was funny when you first married her? I was laughing so hard I about couldn't stand it. I said okay when do we start this. He said how about Jan. 4th, so please pray that I get sick after I get home. This sounds like a complete train wreck to me, but I will at least try it. He then says he will not be there that day because he is going to be on vacation. He said if they would have told him that I was getting treatment that day he would have canceled his vacation. I told him that was okay, but if something bad happened I was coming to see him. He said he would get into work and they would tell him that I was there and he would grab his head and say oh I have to see her today. He is so funny. We went to leave his office and he put his arm around me and walked me across the hall. He filled out all of the instructions for them to start, and then put his arm around my shoulders and walked me to the end of the hall.
If I had not gotten cancer I would have never met these fantastic people that take care of the really sick people of our country. They are such caring people and when they have to tell someone that they have this the way some people react I would not want their fob for anything. After I had that appointment I have had nightmares about taking chemo. We will see later how it all will work I have to take 4 treatments and then have radiation for six and half weeks probably. For any who do not know about radiation, it burns from the inside out and bubbles your skin with blisters and then your skin starts to peel. That is really fun.
As much as you can't wait for that to be done after it is you miss those people that you have seen for six and a half weeks. They get to be like your family. You then go into a state of depression for about three weeks and that is so fun too. Until later - Lori
