Life Lessons For Little Ones
1/29/2010 8:16:58 AM
I have been wanting to get on here for almost a week. Last Sunday we were supposed to go to our son's house for the championship football game. I had looked forward to that for a week. I made a cake Saturday, and couldn't wait. Sunday I wake up and felt like I was getting a sinus infection. I was so sad. I decided to stay home, because if you are not in good shape they will not give you a treatment. Monday I was supposed to have my second one. I sent my husband and we WON!! The COLTS are in the Super Bowl!!
Since I cannot go to church I watch sermons on Sunday morning. A Pastor told a true story of a teacher, who had promised to love each one of the children in her class. She sadly didn't keep that promise.
She had a little boy that didn't have any friends, and didn't smell the best and she was just putting up with him for the year. He was falling behind and she thought that he was a lost cause. If she had read his history in his school reports she would have known why this poor little boy was having such a hard time, but she didn't take the time. His mother was seriously ill and the family was struggling.
When it came time for Christmas all of the children had brought presents for their teacher. She unwrapped each one and there was one wrapped in newspaper and a string. She couldn't have imagined the little boy giving her a present. She unwrapped the present and it was a bracelet with some stones missing and a half filled bottle of perfume. She put on the bracelet and put some of the perfume on and told the little boy how good it smelled. The little boy told her that she smelled just like his mother. She had died earlier in the year.
The teacher started to take an interest in this little boy and began to tutor him. He was almost caught up when he went on to the next class.
She had not heard from him for years and she got a letter. He had graduated from highschool second in his class. A few years went by and she received another letter from him. He had graduated from college and was first in his class. A few more years went by and he wrote her again.
He told her that his father had died last year and that he was getting married. He said that she was the only family he had left and wanted her to come and sit in the place of his mother. She went and come to find out he was a doctor now. That story made me cry half of the day. If there are any people in your life that are having a tough time please take the time to show them love and that you care. You never know what a blessing it will be.
After that sermon I heard another one. That one showed me that I was not trusting God to take care of our family. When this all started I was not going to take any treatment, because I thought that it would be easier if I just died and Jeff could get the insurance money that he had paid for all of the years we have been married. My family could go on with their lives and everything would be fine.
Then I started to hear what he was saying to the people at church. That he just wished that I would change my mind. He never said one word to me. Our daughter-in-law went and talked to Jeff about how worried our son was and how he wished I would have treatment. He is like my husband and does not say anything. Our second son thought I was crazy not to do anything, our third son said that he would probably do what I was, because he is like me. Our daughter said you are not going to do anything? I told her no and she didn't say anything else, she is like my husband too.
I then decided to do the four treatments for all of them, and my parents. I am glad I did now so that they cannot get mad at me for not trying some day. It has not been that bad, but for more aggressive kinds I will not. It is expensive and I do not want to put my husband in any debt for me.
Monday I had my treatment and I had another reaction from that one strong medicine. This time I couldn't hardly breathe. That was a bit scarey. They just stop the medicine give me oxygen and pump a bunch of benedryl and some other medicine into the chemo. Once it is in it is okay, but getting it in is the challenge.
They have decided to give me a shot two days after treatment to keep my white blood count from going so low. They had told me that I may have bone pain, but instead I have no energy and sleep. I can hardly get out of the chair. The day after is back to normal though, Yea!!
Saturday night we are going to friends to play cards, that will be fun. We are planning our annual Super Bowl Party, I am going to wear my new Indianapolis sweatshirt I got at the airport when we took our daughter back after Christmas.
I am getting ready to call our daughter in OK. I want to see if she has lost power where she lives. She was going to call in today, they were having an ice storm, she was cooking chicken enchiladas last night and going to sleep in today. OK City had 16 inches of snow. She lives in Broken Arrow. She said it was supposed to be windy today and that the power lines had ice on them yesterday.
Until later Have a great weekend. Lori
