Lighting My Fires 9/24/2008 3:55:21 AM The Longer Versions of Music and Media... We felt lucky if we heard it back then. Some radio stations played them in full. Some songs by the Doors or Santana were too long for conventional shows. But when you knew the whole enchilada was due up, you hunkered down. Then you never wanted the song to end.
I have been busy editing a longer version of my video. My current book trailer on
http://www.hazardgal.com
is amazing. That is despite the fact that I have a musical artist on there without his permission. People do this on You Tube and everywhere. No big deal.I guess. Many kind folks have given me rave reviews on this four minute book trailer. I want to take it one step further by promoting other artists from Hazard. I want it legit too.
Since then, I have been asking around. A family of Hazard boys who live on our street were tops on my list. After a few MySpace comments back and forth, the band, Chef Dave, agreed for me to use their music instead. Their new album was just released. I drove downhill and bought two CDs.
This has to be the best music I have ever heard, hands down. Every nuance is spectacular. It reminds us of Herbie Hancock and George Harrison. The longer than usual cuts are basically one big jam session. All of it is infused with the Allman Brothers to a degree that you almost think they are part of the mix. The keyboard player is Johnny Neel, a blind man who has major credentials in Nashville and in rock music. He can play the keys as well as Emerson, Lake, and Palmer did back when the Moog synthesizer was born. People not of the sixties may be lost here. The Chef Dave Band is not a bit lost when it comes to music. Every member of the band is on the money.
Their website is

So, I am inspired. I am halfway through creating a new video. This one may be more a mini-movie. I want to keep the format of setting the tone for my book. Chef Dave's songs are long enough that I have run out of pictures.
Actually, I know the video component can end while the music plays on but this song is so good, I want it to dovetail with the images right to the very end. People in their infinite haste, may not want to sit through the entire clip. I suspect they will visit it briefly and come back for more. Like my book of short stories, you can read a chunk of the text, and come back later for another story.
There is much to do here. I may buzz around taking more pictures of our area. I want the long version to rock! Check it out when it arrives, or see the short-short on my website now. Collaboration is sweet and often the best of the best live practically next-door.
