More and More Credits

Hovering on the crater of another great depression.
Writers have it made. If the economy will be in a crater in two days as Chris Dodd just suggested on Imus in the Morning, we have ourselves to fall back on. There is a big difference between credit and credits. Like everyone else I am worried sick about the financial backbone of America. But, I have a twinkle in my eye and there is more than one reason.

I have more credits. Who knows if credit scores will tank soon. Mine has tanked and risen again but I now have much more than that. I was accepted as a contributor to http://www.publicliterature.org and... http://www.blogged.com. The cherry on top of all that is, my book was released just yesterday. I approved the cover about three in the afternoon. It shows in part on http://publishamerica.com... so far and should roll into the major chains soon.

When it rolls into the hands of Americans from Main Street to Wall Street, both of my eyes will twinkle. I am not going overboard. America needs to hear from the little people and I am one. A host of high-falutin' publishers sit on a hill somewhere. I sit on my own hill in eastern Kentucky and like folks who spring forth from You Tube, I am ready as pancakes.

My left hand is still tender. I pulled a wicked splinter out just after breakfast. This cabin in the woods, has two decks and lots of weathered handrails. Splinters seem to latch on just like chiggers.

You can't ignore a splinter for long. That seems a decent enough scenario for this mess Chris Dodd seems to have a handle on. No shows and no teamwork will make this crisis fester. Someone needs to extract some sense here. Folks in small town America like me have a lot on the line.

I have a decision to make. Well known writers may not relate to this quandry, but I suspect they have been there like me. I have danced in the publishing world about twenty-five years. My literary progress has been nip and tuck; estrangement and luck. Through it all I have honed a voice that rings. Like many writers, I chose a publish-on-demand business to embolden my dream.

ALL ROADS LEAD TO HAZARD is on the road as we speak. I am wondering if I should go ahead and order 100, 200, however many copies. After all, in two days we may be writhing in a crater.

So, it is the best of times; the worst of times for me.
Like many writers, we are puzzled about the backbones of our publishers. We want them to stand strong in the storm. We want our offerings to stay on the table and be seen and gobbled up by the masses. I want to know if I should bite the bullet and pre-order a gold mine. Get it now, while I can, while you can. Credit cards may be like dog poop if things don't change.

It is hard to know the difference between panic and passion. Maybe I am like my two little dogs that often confuse the throw rugs for puppy pads. Well, like the powers that be, I may walk out on this decision. I may let it slide a day or two. My husband said my ficton has the cadence of Joyce Carol Oates. I want to believe I am that good. I want to believe in something.
