Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Love and Hate 12/28/2005 5:32:37 AM Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Love and Hate
"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to
bear….Hate can not drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate is
rooted in fear, and the only cure for fear and hate is love.
When I speak of love I am not speaking of some sentimental and weak
response. I am speaking of that force which all of the great religions
have seen as the supreme unifying principle of life….the key that unlocks the door which leads to ultimate reality.
In the struggle for human dignity along the way of life, someone must
have sense enough…to cut off the chain of hate. This can only be done
by projecting the ethic of love to the center of our lives… The highest
good is love. This principle is at the center of the cosmos. It is the great underlying force of life. God is love. He who loves has discovered the clue to the meaning of ultimate reality"
