Another study just came out suggesting that at one big teaching hospital 4% of training surgeons couldn't learn basic laparoscopic skills; they just couldn't master the basic procedures. Another 16% got better with training but never got really good, never reached the expert level of performance. Scary? It's almost certain that 10% of surgeons doing complex laparoscopic operations shouldn't be doing them.
