That's What I Think
2/13/2012 8:40:32 AM

Obsessive thoughts.

The topic today.

When anxiety gets to peaking one can experience obsessive thoughts. A good example is of course me and what I have experienced.

Say I woke up and didn't feel right. Like maybe I had really bad dreams all night long. Sometimes when I wake up with a dream in my head it comes with me into the awake state. I'm remembering it, living it. Well this can make me feel wierd in the head...like medicine head. Well because I am uncomfortable with this awkward feeling I think I am having a stroke or perhaps I have a tumor and that is why things don't feel right. Maybe that is why I woke up so suddenly. OH NO! This is obessesive thinking. Can I let this go? No...I keep obessing on this because I cannot famthom why I don't feel good, so it must be a medical condition that has not been discovered. I can let this go on all day and then become anxious because I am sure I have a medical condition and I am waiting to die.

Obessive thoughts can be about anything. Your pets, your family, the bus, the elevator, etc.

The thing to do here is have a chat...with self. Say to brain "What I am doing is thinking obessively and I want it to stop". "I appreciate the information. But it is not information that is helpful". "I know I am healthy, and I know that I am not having a stroke." "What I will do is refocus all this energy I'm giving to obessesing and place it where it will do better work".

And then do the better work. Soon the thoughts will go away. Soon you will be able to take a better more intellectual look at the mornings happenings and tell yourself it was obsessive thinking.

Ah the day in the life of someone like me...

Cheers, Karla
