Walking Backwards

Looking at things from different perspectives
I try to take a walk every morning before life grabs me up and takes me wherever it wants me to go. I am unbelieavably fortunate to live in a very small Northern California town which is about 100 miles south of the Oregon border.

At an elevation of 25,000 ft, we have what I consider the perfect climate. We usually get enough snow in the winter to keep us in the house a few days each winter, but not too often. We could dig ourselves out,of course, but if we wait long enough the snow will melt or some local kids needing a few bucks shovel us out after awhile. The summers are mild and spring and autumn are absolutely gorgeous.

No, I don't walk un the winter, but now that spring has arrived I am out every morning. Rather than take the same route each day, I vary my walk so that I can see all kinds of flowers and trees. Right now it seems that every tree and bush is covered with amazing blooms.

This morning I did something I seldom do. I walked down a street going in one direction, then turned around and walked back the other way. It was like walking down two very different roads. I felt myself grinning like a Cheshire cat as I retraced my steps. How easy it would have been to have missed all this beauty! And all I had to do was to turn around and to see, I mean REALLY SEE, the gorgeious view that had been behind me all along.

As I neared my home, I began to think about what had just happened and how it had affected me. It suddenly occurred to me that maybe life is a little bit like walking. Maybe, if we took a little time and turned around now and again to see what we have just passed, maybe we would see some wonderful things!

I'm already looking forward to tomorrow's journey.

The Painted King Roosters by Hank LeGrand

Barn yards are usually safe to walk through, but you better keep a close eye on two sets of eyes glaring in the shadows... This is base on a real live event that happened to me...
