Why Setting Goals is Important
7/14/2012 6:51:18 AM

Are you wondering whatís the big deal about setting goals? Itís important because if you donít have a direction to work toward, youíre spinning your wheels all the time. Itís like driving around without a purpose or a plan. Maybe itís like having no map or no GPS system, but being lost all the time. So how can you fix this problem? Here are some suggestions:
ē Set short term and long term goals: Make all of your goals realistic so that youíre sure you can meet them. Maybe for short term, youíd like to write for half hour a day, minimum. You can schedule that early in the morning, or when the children are napping. Once you start making progress, youíll be encouraged. For the long term, choose something thatís really important. Maybe you want to have your first short story finished and edited in 5 months.
ē Every step will encourage you to keep going: Even small steps toward your goal will build your self esteem and confidence. Maybe you never thought you could write anything at all that would be good enough for publication, but now that youíve started, itís easier than you imagined.
ē Youíll be surprised what you can accomplish if you persevere;
Once you begin setting goals and reaching them, youíll be surprised how much for cheerful and confident youíll feel. The hardest thing is probably starting on any project, but just take one step at a time and you could even astonish yourself before long.
