A reflection on growing older, and happier!
Happiness Can Be Tricky!
There once was a lady who was very kind; She never said “no” to a request for help. With her hands and heart, she created and gave whatever and whenever she could, to friends and family, and to those in need that she became aware of. One day, as she was approaching her older years, she felt something inside of her say, “Your time is getting short – do you want to stop doing so much and relax more, take time for yourself, and just enjoy life happening around you?” “Gee”, she thought, “I didn’t know that I wasn’t enjoying myself – maybe I should be protecting what I have left, so that I won’t end up not having any time for ‘Me’”. So, she started saying “no” more often, and sleeping in a little later – babying herself – after all, she deserved it, didn’t she? After awhile, people stopped asking for her help, and she found that her energy level had dropped. Taking time for herself was exhausting! She started to think back on all of the friends that she had met, and the grateful smiles that she had received; the wonderful connections that she had made with groups who had a common goal of improving this world in some way. Her smiles were still handed out in abundance, but they kind of floated in the air and couldn’t find a place to pick up reinforcements. Happiness can be tricky – a difficult but rewarding balancing act! Now, she gets up earlier in the morning, makes time for a walk and reflection; and then looks for ways that she can still help to make this world a better place – one smile at a time.
There once was a lady who was very kind; She occasionally said “no”, to make room for all of her ‘YES’s!
