Columbine Poets is the state chapter of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies. So I send in some poems and they chose an experimental one (repetition) for an award. Not 1st, 2nd or 3rd, by the way.  The other poems I sent were better, in my humble opinion.   It doesn't matter. I got an honorable mention, sort of not so great, but which is fine. The experimental poem is Dropping Like Rubies, almost no revisions -- unlike how I usually work.  So --- ironic.  That's what I had named my website -- not because it's a great poem -- I just liked the sound of the phrase.  I read over the poem.  The actual line is "gleaming like rubies." One just can't have too many senior moments!  I like "dropping" better, though.  Gleaming would be expected.  So, whatever. There's a workshop tomorrow given by the judge. I'm trying to go, since i'm sure it will be fantastic, we also read our poems, which would be great to hear, but I don't know if I'll make it, because I'm not ready for my trip.   I've been reading a lot of poems in journals (Poets and Writers has a great list) and I hope SOMEDAY to write something as good as what I see in some of these literary magazines. Truly, they are awesome and something to which to aspire.
