2008 HOLLYWOOD BOOK FESTIVAL NAMES FIRST APPEARANCES
LOS ANGELES (May 20, 2008) _ The 2008 Hollywood Book Festival has named the first celebrity appearances for its annual daytime festival celebrating books that deserve greater recognition from the film, television, game and multimedia communities. The event will be held on Saturday, July 12 at The Grove at Farmers Market, one of the premiere entertainment, shopping and dining destinations in Hollywood.
Presented in conjunction with Barnes & Noble Booksellers, the Hollywood Book Festival will feature author readings/signings, book publishing panels, live music, book vendors, clowns offering face painting and balloon animals and the bustling ambiance of the Grove's center square. With an anticipated 20,000 attendees expected, it's an event authors and publishers won't want to miss. More information on vendor slots can be obtained by e-mailing HollywoodBKFest.aol.com.
Authors scheduled to appear include Sex and the City actor Evan Handler, who will read from his new work "Time On Fire: My Comedy of Terrors"; Star Trek writer Leonard Mlodinow, reading from his new novel "The Drunkard's Walk"; Rocker Richard Barone, author of the new quasi-fictional novel "Front Man," with a music performance accompanied by a reading from "Three's Company" actress Joyce DeWitt; best-selling author Christina Schwarz, author of "Drowning Ruth," reading from her new novel "So Long At The Fair"; producer Jess Winfield, reading from his new work "My Name Is Will"; and entertainment writer Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna, appearing in support of her new book "Cherry Bomb: The Ultimate Guide..." More appearances will be announced shortly.
Based in the capital of show business, the Hollywood Book Festival aims to (1) spotlight literature worthy of further consideration by the talent-hungry pipeline of the entertainment industry; and (2) facilitate getting those works into the proper hands for consideration.
The 2008 Hollywood Book Festival will consider published, self-published and independent publisher non-fiction, fiction, children's books, teenage, how-to, audio/spoken word, 'zines, comics, e-books, fan fiction, wild card (anything goes!), unpublished stories, genre-based and biography/autobiography works.
A panel of judges will determine the winners based on the following criteria:
1) The story-telling ability of the author;
2) The potential of the work to be translated into other forms of media.
All entries must be in English. Our grand prize for the 2008 Hollywood Book Festival Author of the Year is $1500 and a flight to Los Angeles for our gala awards ceremony during our day festival in July, 2008. More prizes will be announced shortly.
TO ENTER: Entry forms are available online at www.hollywoodbookfestival.com or may be faxed/e-mailed to you. Applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable entry fee via check, money order or PayPal online payment of $75 in U.S. dollars for each submission. Multiple submissions are permitted but each entry must be accompanied by a separate form and entry fee.
AWARDS: Winners of the 2008 Hollywood Book Festival will be honored at a gala ceremony held in Los Angeles. You do not need to be present to accept your award or accompanying prizes.
