“Melody of Art” combines music, art, and poetry for a taste of the arts in a distinctive new way on the eve of Congressional Black Caucus
You can delight your cultural palate with different artistic flavors at Bobby McKey’s, 172 Fleet Street, at the National Harbor, Maryland, on the Eve of the Congressional Black Caucus, Tuesday, September 22, 2009 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. “Melody of Art” combines a delicious buffet of visual, musical, and spoken word art, during the free event, which benefits CAAPA, Inc. (Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts, Inc.) a non-profit company dedicated to supporting youth in the performing arts.
Organizers for CAAPA hope to attract early CBC attendees who wish to enjoy a casual evening at the newest jewel of Maryland --- the National Harbor, before the politics begins. The business casual reception showcases visual artist Frank Frazier of Dallas, Texas, most noted for his work in mixed media, Washington, DC sisterhood of poets Collective Voices (Sistah Joy and Lady Di), jazz pianist Vaughn McClarrin, classical singers Samantha McElhaney and VaShawn McIllwain, and others.
Donations are voluntary and benefit the cultural outreach, talent development, educational enhancement, scholarship opportunities, competitions, and audience awareness of classical music and the performing arts of and for the African American community. The event will also have paintings, art, and other items for purchase. Portions of the proceeds will also benefit the arts. Refreshments are complimentary.
