Gordon was running to catch a flight from Burbank airport for a location shoot in Phoenix for his latest film, ‘Crushed Velvet’ last April when security at Burbank Airport went into high alert after Gordon inadvertently snatched up an old briefcase from an earlier drama production. It seems a forgotten prop gun had been left in one of the side pockets and was discovered when Gordon attempted to board the flight to Phoenix.
Michael Z. Gordon said, after facing the maximum penalty in an L.A. court in May, “I was mortified! I explained to the prosecutor what had happened and she asked me if I had any evidence to back up my story. I asked, Evidence, what evidence?”
Gordon was given three hours to the produce proof of the claim or be sentenced to the arraignment judgment. Nicola Buck and Gordon ran to gather up evidence of documentation from the production shoot to coincide with dates and times of his arrest. Gordon said, “I was lucky Nicola was traveling with me when security scanned the prop gun at Burbank airport.”
The prosecutor for the case took the evidence into consideration and recommended to the Judge to waiver jail time, probation and the fine. Gordon was ordered to serve 80 hours of public service. The case will be dismissed after proof that the public service has been completed. Gordon said he was a nervous wreck, but was pleased to be a free man again.
