by Robin G Howard

Science Fiction
A planet on the verge of population annihilation and atomic weapons now reduced to a back-pack size. Who can stop this escalation of religious extremism before the population of the planet is destroyed? Can Jim Long, space agent of the Galaxy Police, stop this madness?

On a planet in an outer star system, religious fervour shrouded in miraculous mythology spirals out of control. Only a galaxy police officer working undercover with advanced technology can hope to bring the escalation to an end. He is faced with bigotry and hatred of all non-religious sects and a fanatical desire by them to use a back pack portable atomic weapon.

Divine Fanaticism is a new Book to be released in Kent on November 1st 2010 by the author Robin G Howard under the publisher name All Interest books. The book will be in electronic and paperback formats. The cover has been illustrated by Keith J Luck and the book edited by Martin Noble of Aesop Editorial. This is the fourth book in the Jim Long series. It will be available to order by ISBN 978-09538245-88 from bookshops or direct from the World Wide Web.

The story set on another planet is relevant to our day and age. How many of us today worry about terrorists and religious fanatics who are quoting from a bygone era? It was an age severe in wars for territory and conquest. Many of the doctrines now being followed inspired by religion but written by man. Man is fallible. Man makes mistakes. He cannot even be trusted to translate properly. How long before these ‘inspired’ teachings manifests into real terror? The terror of a small atomic weapon that could destroy a city and no one would know who the perpetrators were. On the other planet there were men driven by a fanatic religious desire to conquer all non-believers and use an atomic weapon. On this world are we near to that same parallel?

Divine Fanaticism
‘… a very clever idea – it works very successfully as a sci-fi action novel, a terrorist suspense thriller, an implicit critique on religious fundamentalism and also as a psychological/ metaphysical detective story.
The interrogation of Jel Hal Kinima by Jim Long, is of course one of the highlights of the novel - a masterly piece of dramatic exposition, in my opinion, in which Jim slowly, surgically, psychologically breaks down Kinima's illusions - comparisons with the parable of the Grand Inquisitor in Dostoevsky's Brothers Karamazov even sprung to mind!'
– AESOP Editorial

Synopsis:
Three thousand years ago a religious order was created, shrouded in miraculous mythology. Now the planet Thraeot had become unstable, leaving the governments of this world nervously opposed. The equatorial regions nurtured religious terrorism by the ruling chaotic factions. The foremost religion is in emotional fervour, while the unbelievers host a council of members dedicated to complete religious domination of the planet, having manufactured a mobile atomic weapon. Fearing for the nuclear devastation this might cause, the covert Galactic Police Federation send Jim Long and his crew, Gail, and Norman, all of them in disguise, to seek out its leaders.
The trail leads to a huge building on the edge of a desert used as a training complex. The advanced technology of the Federation operated by Jim intrigues one of the religious leaders as other planetary agents converge on their position. The battle to stop the fanatical operatives exploding a portable nuclear weapon begins, with the lives of ten million city-dwellers at stake. In the midst of all this comes the discovery of a 3000-year-old craft, which brings in to question both the Police Federation and the planetary religion.

Born in UK 1939, the author has a show business career profile starting by writing jokes for local comedians. He then progressed to a double act performing at many venues in the UK. Next, as the director of a theatrical company he wrote 6 professional pantomimes and directed them. TV stars Harry Worth and Charley Drake also appeared in two productions. This also included a black light adaptation of Pinocchio that toured the UK theatres including Birmingham Hippodrome. In 1995 his love of science fiction and the supernatural prompted him to write 5 novels and 5 short stories about a character called Jim Long that came from his childhood. Four novels have now been written and two short stories, leaving 3 short stories to complete and the 5th novel well under way. The supernatural aspect of life has intrigued him dating back to his period in the Royal Air force when one night he was taken 15 months into the future to witness an aircraft crash. Also, in palm reading he discovered a mark that showed a short life span. The other books are: Ancient Ones of Light – The White Hole – Soulgate-temple of souls – The Psychic Thinker.
