Mystery/Suspense
Bob Doerr selected as the Military Writers Society of America's Author of the Year for 2013.

The Military Writers Society of America selected author Bob Doerr as its 2013 Author of the Year during its annual national conference. This award is for a body of work rather than a single novel. Doerr has written five books in his Jim West mystery series, and Total Recall Publications, Inc. in Friendswood, Texas, has published them. Four of Doerr’s Jim West novels have been recognized in a variety of book competitions. His most recent novel No One Else to Kill took second place in Commercial Fiction in the 2013 Eric Hoffer Awards. Each of his books is based in the American Southwest and features the same protagonist, Jim West, a retired Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI.) Doerr, who actually spent 28 years as a Special Agent with the AFOSI, draws from his own investigative and forensic experiences to developing the intriguing character of Jim West and fast moving, suspense-filled plots. Doerr grew up in a military family, graduated from the Air Force Academy, and then had a twenty eight year career in the Air Force. In the Air Force, he specialized in criminal investigations and counter-intelligence gaining significant insight to the worlds of crime, espionage and terrorism. His work brought him into close contact and coordination with the investigative and security agencies of many different countries and with the FBI and CIA. This background helped him develop the fictional plots and characters in his books. He also has a Masters in International Relations from Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, and is now a full time author, with five mystery/thrillers already published. He has also written a middle grade fantasy adventure that was released in September 2013. Doerr currently lives in Garden Ridge, Texas, with his wife of 40 years, and their ornery cat, Cinco. The Military Writers Society of America helps veterans, their families, and historians record history and the complexities of military life―and encourages writing and other creative endeavors as therapy for the stresses of our special circumstances. It focuses on using these works to educate the general public, students, and the military community. The society has approximately 900 members whose works include books of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and short stories. More can be learned about MWSA at their website www.mwsadispatches.com.
