New author makes stop at Hastings to promote book
BY MYRNA WHITEHEAD c/o LUBBOCKONLINE.COM

Every once in a while, something unexpected happens. A recent visit by a relatively unknown author in the Hub City at Hastings shows that good things do happen to good people.
Tracy James Jones of Waxahachie recently gained the support of Hastings to help promote his new book, "Searching for Eden... the Story of Stacy Christian." Hastings purchased the book and has featured it in all of its 150 stores.
To promote the book, Jones selected 15 Texas cities to appear and conduct book signings. The stop at Hastings on 50th Street Friday afternoon marked the next to the last leg of the tour.
"It's really exciting to host a book signing," Jones said. "It's a great boost for me to have the backing of a corporation such as Hastings who was willing to take a chance on my book."
Jones said that when he received a call from Ryan Stewart with Hastings in early January, he selected cities, dates and times without hesitation. The book was scheduled for a January release, however, the actual release date was changed to March 1st.
"Texas is the first stop of this national book tour," Jones said. "I will have my biggest stop in my hometown June 28.
"After that date, then I will plan the next leg of tour which will include Arizona and Oklahoma," Jones added.
To date, Jones has toured Sherman, Denton, Nacogdoches, Longview, Tyler, College Station, Huntsville, Conroe, Waco, San Marcus, Abilene and Lubbock. His final stop will be today (Saturday) in Amarillo from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hastings Store located at 4301 SW 45th St.
Other Texas cities to be included in future tours include Greenville, Killeen and Wichita Falls. As for the national tour, Jones will visit Ardmore, Okla.; Norman, Okla.; Albuquerque, N.M.; Flagstaff, Ariz.; Kingman, Ariz.; and Bullhead City, Ariz.
"I want to stay with Hastings for as long as I can because they've been so great to work with in promoting my book," Jones said.
"Searing for Eden ... the Story of Stacy Christian" is the first installment of a trilogy, Jones said. Although he plans to write the second installment in the winter months, Jones already has completed the screenplay to the novel.
"I've kept all rights which will enable me to make my own deals regarding this book and the next two," he said.
The fiction piece tells the story of a young man who runs away from home only to find more challenges waiting for him than the ones he was trying to escape. It is a story about friendship, good and evil as well as moral corruption.
The book is available at all Hastings Stores and all major bookstores as well as online from Amazon.com to Barnes & Nobles.
Jones said he aspires to become a local celebrity in his hometown.
"I have been working with members of the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce and we're planning a big event at my book signing there," Jones said.
"We're in the process of putting a link from the chamber's website to mine," he said.
The book and the tour have been quite an undertaken, but it is one that Jones said he is happy he is able to take part in.
"It's a lot of hard work but it's very rewarding,"he said. "I hope to be able to help other unknown authors open doors to opportunities that are out there. It's a great experience."
