Author Gary R. Varner has signed a contract with New York academic publisher Algora Publishing to reissue Sacred Wells: A Study in the History, Meaning, and Mythology of Holy Wells & Waters. A landmark book on holy wells and waters around the world, it was previously published by Publish America in 2002.
Richard Pederick, editor of the British journal, Living Spring Journal, wrote:
"The first tangible evidence of (the globalisation of the expertise in holy well research) in print was Sacred Wells: a study in the history, meaning and mythology of holy wells and waters by Gary Varner in 2002. For the first time, we had a major work that was not restricted by geographical boundaries. Gary looked at the subject from a truly global perspective, from California to Cornwall, from Estonia to Australia, and took in many other places between. That book opened our eyes to new vistas. It helped holy well research to pass into a new phase."
As part of Algora's fall releases, Sacred Wells will continue to be available to those interested in bookshops and libraries around the world. The Publish America edition is now out of print.
