Deborah Frontiera signed a contract to write a new history of Soumi College/Finlandia University, going back to the institution's roots in 1898 up to the present. The work is a "coffee table" type book with over 262 pages of photographs and text, many in black and white, with more recent years in color.
"With the experience of Copper Country Chronicler: The Best of J. W. Nara, and having done so much research in Hancock at the Finnish/American Archives right 'next door' to Finlandia Universtiy, while researching Lining on Sisu, I enjoyed to delving into those archives again for this new project," Frontiera said. She spent four months living in the area, June through Sep. 2012, to complete the first draft. Karen Johnson, employee of Finlandia University, took over the project at that point and is also listed as an author.
Finlandia University: Picturing the Past, Envisioning the Future will make it's debut in soft cover at Grand Finn Fest 2013 as planned. The hard cover version will be available later in July. Those interested in purchasing a copy should contact North Wind Books, 906-487-7217 or go to: http//bookstore.finlandia.edu
Finlandia University through North Wind Books will likely be the only place to get this book. It will not be available through the author because the author's contract limits such sales.
