The following is an interview with Margaret Millmore, author of "Doppelganger Experiment".
Q: What was the inspiration for your novel "Doppelganger Experiment"?
The basic idea had been with me for a long time, so I started with that (a person waking up without any memory of their recent life), but it
expanded and turned into what it is today due to something my father-in-law said. He had been dozing on the couch and mumbled in his sleep,
he said ‘stay away from the green building on the left’, that one mysterious comment sparked my imagination and stuck with me the entire
evening and I woke up with the idea of the Doppelganger Experiment.
Q: Thus far your book has received nothing but 5 star reviews. How does that type of reader response affect you?
The reviews are very exciting (even though I do know that one of them is a relative, but I was thankful for her input, since she’s very picky about
what she reads). Another reviewer noted the journey through the city of San Francisco, I worked very hard to stay true to the City and felt great
that I had accomplished that. I was also extremely pleased to see that I had entertained them, that they had trouble putting down the book,
which really was my goal.
Q: There are a great many thrillers on the market, why should I choose yours over all the others?
As an avid reader of thrillers, I am always looking for a fresh new voice and story. My goal in writing Doppelganger Experiment was to present a
villain that was fresh and new and unusual and to surprise the reader with the twists and turns, and the ending. I want to keep the reader up late
at night, unable to stop turning page after page.
Q: Your book is published through 'World Castle Publishing'. How did you connect with this publisher?
After much research and of course many, many rejections, I came across WCP, they are a new publisher, and that can be risky for any author. But I was pleased with the way they did
business, listened to me and my concerns and opinions and of course brought my story to the rest of the world.
Q: If you were to compare your writing style to another author, who would that author be?
I would be honored to be compared to Dean Koontz, his style is a mix of eclectic fiction (a little paranormal, bordering on urban fantasy) and I strive for that sort of genre.
Q: Do you consider your novel to be suitable for all readers?
No, there is some adult language and violence, not a ton, but I wouldn’t really want kids that are 14 or under reading it (of course for me it’s difficult to tell what is appropriate anymore,
just watch a video game, my book would be ‘G’ rated compared to some of those….)
Q: We often here how characters speak to the writer and plot situations can influence a writer in ways they did not expect. With that in mind, how much, if any, did your story change as
you wrote it?
Tons, as each character developed and I decided what their role would be, the plot changed a little. And as each chapter emerged, it shaped the plot on its own, taking it in a direction I
wasn’t expecting.
Q: Which version of your book, print or eBook, is doing best as far as sales?
It’s difficult for me to say as I have not seen any solid sales numbers, I think based on what I have seen, it’s about 50/50.
Q: What has been your most successful marketing tool/strategy for your novel?
Again, that’s difficult to say. As a new novelist, I’ve worked very hard trying to promote and connect with an audience, so I may be doing too much in one regard and not enough in
another, its trial and error. I do know that Amazon.com is a good resource, having reviews and the ‘like’ button hit in Amazon is very helpful and helps guide readers to the book.
Q: Where do you see yourself as a writer ten years from now?
I hope to have published several more books in ten years, I have so many ideas it seems like my head will explode if I don’t get them out. I want to entertain with my stories, and it’s my
hope that I will be doing that for a very broad audience.
