Sotomayor? Who is she? Where is she from? What is her position again? Until recently unless you traveled in her circle you knew nothing about her. As of this writing she is the most searched, hottest item on the net. Everyone is scrambling to know who she is.
She would have been the one thought to be the most unlikely to succeed. . . you know, raised in poverty and all. Someone might have even made the mistake of telling her that. It might have been someone close to her or outside her family and friends but she refused to believe that it couldn’t happen for her.
How do I know? Because many before her have overcome tremendous odds, carved themselves out a piece of history.
Her life is an open book now. I hope she can handle it. She seems to be hanging tough. Now the race is on to see what can be uncovered either to confirm or deny her one of the highest offices in the country.
She probably dreamed of doing many great things. I suspect she had to set goals and reset new ones as she accomplished them. She stayed focus not on her circumstances but took control of her mind to run for the GOLD.
How do I know? Because if you ask anyone who came up the hard way and who have been successful in creating a different life for themselves, their story would be similar.
The message is the same: no matter what happens in your life you have a choice; you can allow yourself to rise above it or you can give in to it. . . become a quitter.
I spoke to one of my Puerto Rican friends and the emotions were high. Sara DeJesus said, “It makes me proud. I am proud of her. She is a smart lady.”
The feelings were gladness at her being in the game, whether she was confirmed or not was not an issue.
Sonia Sotomayor begins a new public life today. Her life will never be the same. I too have a dream: that I might write Sotomayor’s life story as a legacy to the next generation. Just a dream but I believe that dreams do come true.
