Writing Seminar I
Putting Thoughts to Paper
WHAT: A beginning class in becoming inspired to write and finding the storyteller in every one of us. The course will incorporate all the stages of writing, leading to a finished work. Patricia C. Behnke, an award-winning journalist and published author, will conduct the seminar.
WHEN: Two choices
March 5, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
April 9, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
WHERE: At a guesthouse on the banks of the Santa Fe River
High Springs
COST: $80
Each participant will come away from the seminar with a piece of writing ready for publication (if they wish!).
REGISTRATION: This seminar is by invitation only and will be limited to five participants for each of the classes. Availability in the classes are on a first come, first serve basis. Registration must be completed by February 20. Send a check for $80 with the form below to Patricia C. Behnke, P.O. Box 1311, High Springs, FL 32655.
WHAT TO BRING: • Yourself, of course, dressed in your most comfortable clothes;
• A notebook of some type — this is truly personal choice. It could be a journal, a legal pad, or scratch paper (you will be provided with a spiral notebook with paper and handouts at the opening session);
• A writing utensil — again this is your own personal choice;
• If you are more comfortable writing on a laptop, by all means bring it.
Part 1: Prewriting strategies will be explored and practiced, which will result in choosing a topic to take through the stages of writing. Some drafting (called free writing) will occur as well as activities that will stimulate your creative side.
Part 2: Participants create a draft of one of the pieces begun in Part 1. Sharing of these pieces will result in feedback from the group. Going through the group’s writing will lead to a discussion of what things work well and suggestions for revision.
Part 3: Participants will revise drafts and complete a final version. Discussion of the next steps as a writer will include using writing as a tool for healing.
