Tales of the Talisman, Short Story Touching Death by A. B. Wallace
Friday, July 29, 2005  9:13:00 AM

by A. B. Wallace

Mystery/Suspense
This fall, editor David Lee Summers and art director Laura Givens present the second issue of Tales of the Talisman. This issue features mystery and suspense with a twist – you’ll find mysteries set in the magical past, a present populated with witches, and vampires, and hardboiled detectives working in the distant future both on Earth and in space. This issue features stories by David B. Riley, A. B. Wallace, Mark Anthony Brennan and Rhysling Award nominee Wesley Lambert. Also starting this issue is part I of the five-part serial, “The Ganymede Murders” by Kenneth James Crist.

Excerpt from short story, Touching Death by A. B. Wallace.

Father John had promised not to tell them of her abilities, had given her his word she could explain in her own way.  Still, they brought a shoebox with them.  Why?  She stared at the box, seeing the most disturbing of images—death in its natural state.
Abby watched the young detective place the shoebox on the coffee table, lean his back against the sofa, squirm in his seat, and crack a brittle smile.  She shifted her attentions to the older of the two men.  He had stopped speaking, seemed confused, unsure of where to look.  It was always the same.  Her dark glasses served her well.  They protected her, not from the light alone, but from their searching eyes as well.
