"I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free."
"I write for the same reason I breathe - because if I didn't, I would die."
I have won! I completed my goal of writing a 50,000 word (175 page) novel in one month a week early!
I wrote some great stuff, and I wrote some crap. The main thing is, I have a first draft to work with now - spotted with holes, full of mistakes and also beauty, full of promise. My first novel I worked on for three years and still don't have a first draft. Now I've written a first draft in a mere three weeks and with a four-month old. I couldn't ask for more.
In 2005 there were over 59,000 participants in NaNoWriMo. Only 10,000 of them crossed the finish line by the deadline. Now I am one of them. I started the month as a wife, mother and poet and walked away a novelist.
I have learned so much by taking the leap into noveldom, and now I know what I need to do to complete a novel. To enrich it, I will study other writers I admire and see how they do it. There are so many teachers in this world and I am so willing and ready to learn.
