Suite101.com to showcase anthology & authors at
BookExpo America in Chicago
VANCOUVER, BC – June 1, 2001 -- Suite101.com, Inc. (OTC BB:BOWG), the online publishing community of real people helping real people, announced today the publication of its first anthology, Real People, Real Stories: How the Internet is Touching Lives, a compilation of personal essays on how the Internet is changing people's lives across North America.
Free copies of the anthology are available for download at Suite101.com (www.suite101.com/ibc) and Barnes & Noble.com. Trade paperbacks are expected to be available from major online bookstores this June.
While unraveling this anthology’s inspiring stories, readers will learn how real people have reached out for help in the virtual world of the Web, faced their adversities, and found the courage to change. Real People, Real Stories will be the focus of Suite101.com’s booth at the BookExpo America, the world’s largest book industry trade show in Chicago, IL, from June 1 to 3rd this year.
“Suite101.com recognized early on that the Internet was the first medium that allowed real people to have a say,” said Julie Bradshaw, Managing Director of Suite101.com. “The Real People, Real Stories anthology is a perfect example of real people literature -- bringing together readers and writers who identify with a passion, who really want to share, and who really care,” Bradshaw said.
Real people literature is the essence of the Suite101.com site: lively discussions surround Interactive Book Circles where real people can read topical articles, find links to more information, swap and share stories, and participate in conversations about books, their themes and their authors. A concept termed “living content,” or content that is continually enhanced and updated, is a form of publishing unique to the Internet. Links to Suite’s Interactive Books Circles and related topics can be found in both the ebook and trade paperback versions of Real People, Real Stories.
The content for Suite101.com’s first anthology was harvested from the Suite101.com community and by doing so, involved the community in the entire publishing process. Recently, Suite101.com sponsored an online writing contest (the Short 'n Suite Writing Contest), inviting emerging writers from across North America to submit their stories on how the Internet has touched their lives. The contest garnered over 600 entries. The resulting anthology, Real People, Real Stories, contains 30 stories: the three winning entries selected by a panel of well-known judges, 17 entries that were short-listed by Suite101.com’s Editors, and 10 entries selected by the Suite101.com community at large.
The stories in the anthology were read and judged by more than 2,000 members of the Suite101.com community. In less than 100 working days, Suite101.com collected the content, vetted, judged, and edited the stories, and then published the anthology as both an ebook and a print-on-demand trade paperback. Real People, Real Stories will be showcased at Suite101.com’s booth at BookExpo America (booth 4956 in the Electronic Publishing and Technology Pavilion) with the prize-winning authors hosting scheduled book signings.
About Suite101.com

Collectively, the over 1,400 unique topic sites that make up Suite101.com enable Internet users to meet, share ideas, and connect with other like-minded people from around the world. The entire Web site is archived and organized into ten categories using the Dewey Decimal Classification ® System (DDC) and the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), two of the most widely-used information management systems in the world. Started in 1996, Suite101.com was one of the first Internet sites to engage real people (often called "Web guides") rather than software (primarily search engines) to help other Internet users find quality, relevant information on the Internet.
