Dear Readers,
Since I’ve been resident in Vientiane, Laos my time has been taken up with socializing, and traveling from one city to another. But still; one can always find time to write ‘short stories’ about traveling within Laos and Thailand. My short stories of Laos cover ‘education’ and ‘dreamtime.’ Chiang Mai, Thailand inspired me to write about the ‘Dancing elephants of Chiang Mai.’ The people that I have met in both countries are generous with their friendship and willingly share their knowledge of their cultural and history. The Expiate women of WIG (Women’s International Group) have been especially wonderful and always include newcomers into their monthly lunch, painting mornings and charity projects. They raise money by many different means to support provincial schools, buying limbs (prosthetics) for victims of UXO (un-exploded bombs or landmines) Their valuable charity work is endless but they always become involved in small projects that they feel benefit the most people possible. The assistance of funds to Non Sa’ Ath School paid for the cement and roofing iron necessary,to complete three more classrooms. The truly amazing thing was the spirit of the villagers there who banded together and made this dream possible for their children.
Due to ill health of my agent, Jillanne Kimble, progress has been slow with the re-publishing of ‘Angels of Saigon’ and ‘The Emerald Buddha.’ But the positive action has been from readers who have read two of my books and continue to ask questions and show interest in my progress as a writer. My current project is writing a biography about my travels within Uzbekistan (previously the old USSR) and the story of Gulnora, a young woman who has become a close friend. Her courage and determination to resolve her own way in life is a lesson to us all. Ideally this book should be illustrated with some of the memorable photos that I took while traveling with her along the ‘Old Silk Road.’
Many of my short stories can be read and collected on either www.bookworm.au.com or www.authorsden.com
Angels of Saigon and The Baby Merchants are still available from www.amazon.com
Happy Reading,
Leonie Campbell (author)
