Dr. Ernesto Kahan: his bilingual message
Wednesday, October 12, 2005  8:21:00 AM

by Maria Cristina Azcona

Dear Friends (abajo en castellano)

We are shocked and desperate for the pain and destruction due to the hurricanes in the gulf of Mexico and the earthquake in the Indian peninsula (Pakistan and India).

In the case of the hurricanes we learned  that they are an indirect consequence of the man made pollution and the impact on the people in correlation with the degree of richness of the involved countries. The situation is worse in poor countries because of the corruption of the governments, lack of preparation for disasters, lack of control for construction of buildings and houses, lack of assistance to victims, etc. Again differences between rich and poor people.

We see the same level of earthquake in California and Pakistan but with a different destruction. The same hurricane in USA and in Guatemala but different consequences in terms of destruction and death because of the money.

Physicians in particular and humanistic societies can not accept such kind of injustice. Is time for the creation of world and regional strategies to protect the simple people from these "natural" disasters, and to oblige politicians and authorities to follow the future related global plans.

My sisters and brothers, receive our pain for your pain, our love and our solidarity

Queridos amigos
