This memoir includes chapters on Flannery O'Connor, showing her personal rather than literary side; on Jim Willliams of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil; on Susan Myrick, technical editor of the movie Gone with the Wind; and many other persons who moved through my life in the 1940s and early 1950s. For example, the first football coach at the University of Georgia, Charles Herty, not only designed the modern football, but also developed paper from pine pulp. Seventy-six horses roamed the pastures at Westover Plantation. Rabies killed my riding horse. Screwworms dominated summers. Plantation life in 1940s bore no resemblence to plantation life in 1850s Georgia. Visit: Yesterplace.com for ordering info
This book has been called a MUST READ for Flannery O'Connor scholars.
