WHOA, how cool was THIS? International Horror Guild Winner DEL STONE JR. actually asking for an autographed copy of MY book?
(As well as fellow humor-horror scribe JEFF STRAND, author of the ANDREW MAYHEM thrillers, and KEITH GOUVEIA, author of THE ETERNAL BATTLE!!!)
CLOWNWHITE sold out with dizzying speed, the last one going to an overworked BORDERS cashier who said "I've been ringing YOUR sh*t up ALL DAY!" INHUMAN RESOURCES sold well too, and the awesome Karen Dunlap (Borders' mgr) saw to it we were all PAID CASH on the same day!!!
Lots of cool writers & books abounded: I got autographed copies of Bill Dougherty's THE DARKER SIDE OF GOLF, Garret Peck's TOOTH AND CLAW, Jeff Strand's GRAVEROBBERS WANTED, Teri Jacob's THE VOID and Elenora Sabin's A SCHOOL FOR SORCERY. Audio producer/author Terry Drayer was kind enough to trade DEAD SILENT for a THIS WON'T HURT A BIT.
I got to read the prologue from CLOWNWHITE and "PIECE BY PIECE" from INHUMAN RESOURCES, and was applauded, but I gaffed badly when I read the line "Hire the handicapped, we're fun to watch" and noticed a BLIND WOMAN sitting in the front row! CROM! Open mouth, insert foot! She actually laughed over it, though, and I made up for it with a free CD of THIS WON'T HURT A BIT (She had complained to the other horror authors of a lack of audio works available).
The only low point of the day to my mind were the Panels: 20% informative, 40% things people already knew, 40% Bitching about the current horror scene (or lack of it) and wishing we were back in the "Good Old Days"--when exactly WERE those, anyway?
A cool dinner at PF CHANG'S, and it was off to Townsends' (Haunted!) Plantation for a ghost hunt, AND a live interview by RADIO SCI FI! Hopefully it'll be available on their site, www.radioscifi.net.
True Metal THANKS to Owl Goingback, Keith Gouveia & Brad, Karen Dunlap, BORDERS staff, and all writers & fans!!!
