What is better than releasing one spoken word cd in the month of February 2005 to accompany the new poetry chapbook THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH? Releasing THREE, of course!
MS' own C. A. Webb will be doing just that on Saturday, February 26, 2005 when he releases not one but three spoken word cds at the Smith Robertson Museum during his show called THE TRUTH.
"I wanted to do something different," Webb replied when the idea was explained to his current team. "My new work will be distributed as a whole as well as by subject matter so the public can choose what they want to hear and buy."
The primary spoken word project, THE TRUTH, is a healthy work of 18 tracks, some of which contain poetry that Webb has never shared before. In the midst of the poetry, however, are three tracks by artists that are signed with Shadow Play Entertainment, the production subsidiary of C. A. Webb, Inc. The singers are Martha Simpson, Sho' and Next of Kindredz. "Their messages added to the theme of the cd," Webb explains. "It made sense that they would be included." Along with their songs are color photos of the performers inside the case.
The second cd is called "TRACKS OF LOVE: Spokeen Word of Affection." This love project has ten tracks, 9 of which are poetry by Webb and one track features R&B singer Sho'.
The third cd is called I KNOW NOW, and has only 5 tracks---all reflective---three of which are by Webb and the other two are inspirational singer Martha Simpson and hiphop players Next of Kindredz.
And the cost of this ambitious project? The poetry chapbook THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH will be $10.00 THE TRUTH cd is $15; TRACKS OF LOVE is $10; and I KNOW NOW is $5.00. The entire four-piece TRUTH package can be purchased for only $30.00. Discounts will also be available for any combination of projects that is purchased (such as the chapbook and THE TRUTH cd for only $20.00).
As with most projects by Webb, their is still some mystery about exactly who some of the poetry is written for... as well as the dedication inside the TRUTH cd. Inside the cd cover, C. A. Webb says to someone described as 'you, you know who you are' that they are what he "needed going into 2005." And goes on to say "thank you and [I] love you more than you would ever understand." When his board of consultants pushed him on who he was referring to, all Webb would say is that it was not the same "you" that his first spoken word cd METAMORPHOSIS was dedicated to. He also made the point to them that sometimes YOU can be used to discuss a group of people, not just one individual. In other words, he's not saying either way.
