September has been designated as Menopause Awareness Month. According to the American Menopause Foundation (www.americanmeno pause.org), more than 1,500 American women reach menopause every day.
In honor of Menopause Awareness Month, baby boomer author Beverly Mahone is offering a free audio CD, which includes an excerpt from her best-selling book, Whatever! A Baby Boomer’s Journey Into Middle Age. “I have taken a serious subject and tried to find the humor in it, says the author. “The CD will definitely make you laugh and appreciate the fact that you’re not spending your private summer all by yourself!”
Why is it important to have menopause awareness? Mahone says it’s important because the same thing that causes periods to stop also causes menopausal symptoms in two out of three menopausal women. The ovaries stop producing estrogen, potentially causing symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, mood swings, vaginal dryness, and low libido.
In addition to the free CD, Mahone is also including a special poster of the Seven Dwarfs of Menopause. Mahone laughs and says, "Here's your chance to see what Sweaty, Bloated, Forgetful, Bitchy, Itchy Sleepy and Psycho look like up close and personal! Supplies are limited so get yours while they last.
